Carl Romanos

In 2013, Motu hosted Carl Romanos of Stanford University as a part of the Stanford Energy and Environment Policy Analysis Center (SEEPAC) fellowship to New Zealand. This fellowship programme looks to increase international collaboration in environmental economics between young researchers from Stanford and researchers at Motu.

Carl worked with Suzi Kerr on an project looking at associating New Zealand household expenditures to carbon emissions figures. He analyzed national survey data in order to find household expenditure data for every sector of the economy and calculated the corresponding carbon emissions associated with those expenditures. Carl’s paper looks at the significance of this data and differentiates this data over many personal and household demographics such as income or household composition. The data from this project may be used in various online tools in order to better educate the population on the carbon emissions implications of their general lifestyles.
