Applications for Research Fellow and Senior Fellow

Motu Research is currently accepting applications from potential Research Fellows and Senior Fellows.

There is no deadline for applications - we welcome them at any time.

Motu is based in Wellington. Our preference is for candidates to be based here but we may explore people working from other locations in Aotearoa.

In your cover letter, please discuss how your values relate to the objectives of Motu Research and its intellectual community. The specific requirements for the positions of Research Fellow and Senior Fellow are outlined in more detail below. 

Research Fellow 

Research Fellows are expected to engage in applied economic research while working collaboratively with Senior Fellows and Research Analysts. Applicants should have: 

  • a PhD from an internationally recognised institution (or be close to completing one) 

  • a broad range of academic interests and an emerging research agenda 

  • the ability to complete high-quality and policy-relevant research  

  • interest in working closely with other researchers as well as decision-makers, policymakers, stakeholders, and the public. 

Senior Fellow 

Senior Fellows are expected to lead applied economic research while working collaboratively with Research Fellows and Research Analysts. Applicants should have: 

  • a PhD from an internationally recognised institution  

  • proven experience publishing excellent economic research 

  • the ability and willingness to attract funding for your research 

  • experience working closely with other researchers as well as decision-makers, policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.
